I got together with some old school friends last night to celebrate Christmas, we always have a theme and last night it was the 1920s - we had a good laugh and a good drink! We had a go at the Charleston but just couldn't stop laughing and gave up.

Amazing how long it takes to put up a Christmas tree! I kid myself every year that I am going to get it done in an hour or so......but it always end up taking me the whole afternoon! Still have about 6 presents to buy which I plan to do on Sunday - then Monday I have a family lunch and cooking mince pies and sausage rolls in the afternoon/evening - I am hoping my Granddaughter Ffion will come over Saturday afternoon and give me a helping hand with the fudge, coconut cream, peppermint creams and rocky road, got the tins ready to put them all by for Christmas. I am aiming for having a relaxing Christmas Eve, hanging out in town with my husband browsing the shops and drinking coffee then off to the cinema to see the new Hobbit film then home to put the turkey in the oven to cook overnight............of course as my lovely friend Mare has already said this week "Best laid plans" etc..............

Before you ask........no I do no intend to stop celebrating my 60th birthday any time soon! So far I have been to London to see Crosby, Stills and Nash, been to London with my sisters to see Jersey Boys and partake of a wonderful meal and hotel stay and last night I celebrated with all of the most important people in my life (with the exception of you guys even though that would be a most excellent celebration and I am going to be 60 for a whole year!) My husband Pietro really pushed the boat out for me and I know I am a most lucky woman.

Party on...

As if one Wedding just a few days after Christmas 2012 wasn't enough number one son re-married his ex-wife Kelly on 3rd. August this year. In spite of Kelly and I not always seeing eye to eye in the past I have to say that things have got a lot better - I still have moment when I could cheerfully slap her but mostly we are getting on very well. The Wedding was again at The Manor House and went very well, another happy day. xx

It's all very well me posting about things that are happening in the here and now but I have been such a useless friend and poster for so long that I think I will post a few catch-up posts as I go along.

On the 29th December 2012 our middle son Giancarlo married the lovely Fotini here at the Manor House, it was a fabulous day our lovely Granddaughters Ffion (eldest sons daughter) and Effie (the happy couples daughter) were bridemaid and flowergirl and a wonderful job they did too! xx

We had a lovely time! Set off on the train from Cardiff at 8.30am arrived in London and went straight to dump our bags at the hotel. Then we went to Oxford street for shopping and to Carnaby Street for the atmosphere. we got hungry and went to an O'Neils for a late lunch and a few JD and cokes - then back to the hotel to rest up and get ready for our meal out.
The restaurant Quaglino is lovely, the food was delicious and the young lady singing her heart out nailed every song she sang.
Next day we had a leisurely breakfast then went to the Christmas Market on the South Bank, had a very naughty cream cake each then went to the theatre - Jersey Boys was outstanding! I would recommend it. I will go and see it when it comes to Cardiff!

One of my sisters rang this morning to tell me that for my 60th birthday they (she and other 2 sisters) are taking me to London on Friday morning, we are travelling first class by train and checking into an hotel in Central London then going shopping for the afternoon, back to the hotel to get ready for a meal out at a restaurant called Quaglinos, next day we will get up late and go for a pub lunch then to the theatre to see Jersey Boys!! YAYYYYYY!!! We are going to the matinee so that we can come out and not be travelling home too late. It takes about 2 hours on the train so not too bad. I am soooooooooooooo excited! We will have a great laugh and I have been really wanting to see that show!! xx

My niece Abbies' Baby Shower was lovely, loads to eat and lots of baby related games to play and plenty of people I hadn't seen for age to catch up with the gossip!
During the last few weeks we have been making a patch each to put together to make a fine unique patchwork quilt for the baby, a real family heirloom!! It was a surprise and Abbie was delighted.

Abbie and her beautiful quilt.

Went to my cousins 50th birthday last evening, it was lovely to see some of my other cousins too, so often it is the older generation that keeps the links between cousins in place, once they pass on the celebrations that they used to organise stop and years can go by without seeing cousins apart from the occasional funeral, so it was nice to catch up with some of mine last night and to be together celebrating. When we were all small we used to gather at my paternal Grandparents house for Boxing Day (26th. Dec) every year, we had great fun showing off our new toys and having our uncles crack nuts and dole out the sweets. I remember in those days men always wore suits so I have memories of all of my uncles in their smart dark suits sitting and standing in my Grans front room with a glass of beer, all talking and laughing (my Fathers side are really funny). All the women would be around my Gran (we all called her Ma) in the kitchen helping with the food. It was a tiny 2 bedroomed terraced house with an outside toilet, my Grandparents brought up 9 children in it and on Boxing Day they were all there with their wives, husbands and children (35 grandchildren) When it was time to eat all us kids would sit on the stairs - youngest at the bottom, and the women would pass us a plate of food and a drink. It was the best part of Christmas being there, Sadly most of the uncles and aunts have passed away only 4 are still alive and of course my lovely Mum. One of the aunts is going to be 101 in December xx
Some pics of last evening. xx

Ugghhh!! I am always thinking to myself that I would like to have a busier social life, I am always busy but usually something to do with the kids, our house or our business - I look at nice clothes when I'm out shopping and always end up buying something *serviceable* thinking to myself "Where am I going to wear that cute little cocktail dress etc". This weekend I have too much socialising to do! Tonight my cousin Carolines 50th birthday party, tomorrow lunch and shopping with my old mate Lynn then on Sunday my niece Abigails baby shower! I am panicking about when I'm going to get other things done now! Sheesh! I could do with a holiday! xx
What deep thinkers men are. I mowed the lawn today, and after doing so I sat down and had a cold beer. The day was really quite beautiful, and the drink facilitated some deep thinking.

My wife walked by and asked me what I was doing and I said 'nothing'. The reason I said that instead of saying 'just thinking' is because she would have said 'about what'. At that point I would have to explain that men are deep thinkers about various topics which would lead to other questions.

Finally I thought about an age old question: Is giving birth more painful than getting kicked in the nuts? Women always maintain that giving birth is way more painful than a guy getting kicked in the nuts.

Well, after another beer, and some heavy deductive thinking, I have come up with the answer to that question. Getting kicked in the nuts is more painful than having a baby; and here is the reason for my conclusion. A year or so after giving birth, a woman will often say, "It might be nice to have another child." On the other hand, you never hear a guy say, "You know, I think I would like another kick in the nuts."

I rest my case.

Time for another beer.
Joined Slimming World last week, went to weigh last evening and I have lost 3lbs!!!!! since I only want to lose 11lbs I reckons that's a pretty good start! xxxx
During our stay in Italy in September we were hit by a man on his Vespa - it was entirely his fault (no one was hurt) and he ran away from the scene of the accident, luckily we were about to turn into a private car park so there were cctv cameras that recorded everything and we were able to get his reg plate number which we gave to the hire car company, we have just been notified that they have tracked him down and he has no insurance, never has had........we are £495.00p out of pocket............damn! xx
Off we went to London on Tuesday to see Crosby, Stills and Nash, they were wonderful, they atmosphere in The Royal Albert Hall was buzzing and the whole evening was so enjoyable I didn't want it to end! The band played all my favourite tracks, they came on stage at 8pm and there was a 20 minute break the show finished at about 11pm - not bad going as they must be nearly 70 years old.
The hotel was lovely, very comfortable and only a short walk from the venue. We were meant to pay £35.00p to use the hotel car park (London remember) but as they didn't have the exact room I had reserved they waived the cost of the car park......I was very pleased about that since I wasn't really sure what I'd reserved anyway! and the room we had was really fine .....result! xx

Bought myself a new 3 quarter length jacket at TK Maxx last Thursday and I am looking forward to wearing it up to London to see Crosby, Stills & Nash tomorrow, I have booked up into an hotel/apartment building close to the Royal Albert Hall it's not exactly cheap considering there is no breakfast in the price but less expensive hotels were a fair way across the city and any savings would have been spend on getting to and from.
Have looked after my 2 year old granddaughter Effie to day, she wasn't herself I think she is coming down with something, she was trying to be cheerful but wouldn't eat much, not even treats and kept needing a snuggle.
Ffion slept over our house on Saturday night and as she was going to a party yesterday I gave her a face mask and an overnight leg tanning treatment, she was so excited! She had a fab time at the party too.
Pietro and I drove down to the Vale yesterday and had a few halves of real ale and a packet of crisps, lovely, sometimes it's the simple things that put a smile on your face, don't you think? xx
