Bloody snow!!
Jan. 3rd, 2011 04:42 pmI am sitting here looking out the window and watching the snow flutter down in the field next door and silently praying that it doesn't settle. I am not trying to be a killjoy but the last lot cost our hotel about £8000.00p in lost turnover, on the Friday before Christmas (our biggest Xmas party day this year) the snow came down thick and fast - out car park was soon covered in about 8 inches of the cold stuff and so was the rest of the town, by 3 in the afternoon every one of our parties had canceled - disaster, it will take us ages to recover from this as we had an unusually quiet autumn and the recession is still biting
This is not just about myself and Pietro wanting to make loads of money, this is about peoples jobs, we have been hanging on to our staff all year and have finally had to put them all on part-time, they have all been so understanding and want to hang on until things get better in the spring. We have been here for 20 years at The Manor and the last 2 have been the most difficult - nor because we are not doing the business but because of the aggressive attitudes of the bank that we deal with, putting pressure on us to pay back the overdraft that we have had in place with no problem (and they have clawed THOUSANDS of pounds in fees) for 14 years, so thanks HSBC your policy of causing problems where there wasn't one will not be forgotten. This will not beat us, we have plenty of ideas for generating new business and improving existing business, so we may be a bit down at the moment but we are most definitely NOT OUT!!

Date: 2011-01-03 09:03 pm (UTC)It's so hard. Kurt just got the news that there is a 3% pay cut proposal for all state employees. With no cost of living raises the past 3 years and the enforced furlough days that really puts us in a bind if it goes through.
And I've hardly had any weddings--- what's up with that? I wonder if folks think it's just too expensive to get married.
Sending prayers your way... ♥

Date: 2011-01-06 02:57 am (UTC)It must take nerves of steel to run a business like yours, kind of like farming. You do everything right and <> the weather takes it all down. I hope that the weather gives it all back in the spring, with many people are inspired to get married at your place and book three days of eating and sleeping to do so.
***big hugs***
